Every moment matters. At 60 km/h, a vehicle covers about 16.7 metres every second.
In a quarter of a second, it travels about 4.2 metres.
Safety is a system. Sensors, software, brakes and tyres must work together on real roads.
Our work starts with the whole system. From the first signal to the final stop.
Distance travelled at 60 km/h 4.2 metres in a quarter of a second. Every moment matters.
Questions. Reviewed 11 October 2026
How far does a car move in 0.25 seconds? At a constant 60 km/h, it travels about 4.2 metres. The calculation is 60 ÷ 3.6 × 0.25. Braking distance must be calculated separately.

Is that Pod 1’s stopping distance? Pod 1’s stopping distance has not been validated. The 4.2-metre figure describes travel at a constant speed for a quarter of a second.

What affects stopping distance? Response delay, speed, tyre grip, road conditions and braking performance all matter. ArcEight’s development work covers sensing and compute as part of that system. Explore the technology .
